Origen

Some places aren’t explained.
They’re felt.

Origen is inspired by the silent strength of the mountain that roots us, the immense sky of the Elqui Valley that lifts us, and the wisdom of those who learned to live in harmony with this land long before us.

For the Diaguita people, life was a constant passage between mountain, valley and river; a path where light and shadow were not opposites but parts of the same journey. That view inspires the essence of this retreat: remembering that growing also means integrating every part of who we are.

For five days, movement, food, nature, wine and community become the language for discovering the Elqui Valley from a new perspective. Not as a destination to visit, but as a territory to inhabit with the body, the senses and enough time to be transformed by it.

The Elqui Valley

Why here?

Among mountains, vineyards, rivers and one of the clearest skies on earth, this land offers the perfect setting to stop, breathe and reconnect. But its true richness goes far beyond its landscapes: this valley was home to the Diaguita people, whose understanding of life was deeply connected to nature and its cycles.

The valley’s rhythm

Here days begin with the first light over the mountains. Meals follow the rhythm of the land and the seasons. Conversations stretch around a shared table. Nights end under one of the most extraordinary skies on the planet.

Here, time feels slow again.

A living heritage

Origen exists thanks to local producers, farmers, cooks and artisans who open the doors of their work. Through them you’ll discover:

  • Seasonal gastronomy
  • Local produce
  • Small-scale agriculture
  • Mountain wines
  • Traditional crafts
  • Local craftsmanship
  • The culture and history of the Elqui Valley
The house that receives us

Casa Álvarez & Casa Espejo

Casa Álvarez was for many years the old school of Alcohuaz. Carefully restored, it keeps the spirit of that place of gathering and community. Built in adobe, stone and wood, it preserves the traditional architecture of northern Chile: its walls regulate temperature and its corridors and courtyards converse with the landscape.

A few steps away is Casa Espejo, also known as Bistró Shala, tied to the winemaking history of Alcohuaz: it was once part of the grape-drying process after harvest.

The house has

  • Casa Álvarez and Casa Espejo, exclusive use
  • Private and shared rooms
  • Two pools surrounded by gardens
  • Direct access to the Claro river
  • Indoor and outdoor spaces to gather
  • Fire pit to gather under the stars
  • Gardens, terraces and quiet corners
  • Mountains, vineyards and nature all around

A kitchen born of the territory

We work with seasonal ingredients and favour produce grown and made in the Elqui Valley. Fruit, vegetables, herbs, cheeses, oils, wines and local preparations are part of a proposal that celebrates the landscape and the people behind it.

Frequently asked questions

Before you book

Do I need previous yoga experience?
No. All practices are designed to adapt to different levels of experience. What matters most is coming with the willingness to enjoy it.
Can I come on my own?
Yes. Many of our participants travel alone. Origen is designed so that from day one you feel part of the group, even if you arrive on your own.
What language is the retreat in?
Origen unfolds in Spanglish. Practices and gatherings are guided in Spanish and English at once, without translations breaking the rhythm, so people of different nationalities can take part.
How do I get to the Elqui Valley?
The meeting point is La Serena Airport. From there we organise a group transfer to Casa Álvarez, included in the experience.
What kind of food will there be?
Food is one of the pillars of Origen. Every meal is prepared with seasonal ingredients and local produce, inspired by the culinary identity of the Elqui Valley.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
Yes. We can adapt menus to allergies, intolerances and dietary preferences shared with us before the retreat.
What are the rooms like?
We have private and shared rooms across Casa Álvarez and Casa Espejo. When booking you can choose the available option that suits you best.
Is there internet or phone signal?
Yes, the houses have Wi-Fi and there is phone signal — though we invite you to disconnect from your everyday pace and use the chance to be more present.
What should I bring?
Before the retreat you'll receive a complete guide. We recommend comfortable clothes for yoga, a swimsuit, walking shoes, a warm layer for valley nights and sun protection.
What's the weather like in January?
January is summer in the Elqui Valley. Days are warm and sunny while nights cool down, so bring both light clothing and a warm layer.
Will I have free time?
Yes. The programme combines guided activities with time to rest, enjoy the pool, walk by the river or simply take in the landscape.
How big is the group?
Origen welcomes a maximum of 15 participants, allowing for a close, personalised experience with room to connect with the group.
Can I extend my trip before or after?
Of course. Many participants explore the Elqui Valley or spend a few days in La Serena before or after Origen.
What isn't included?
Flights to La Serena, travel insurance, personal expenses and anything outside the programme are not included.
What is the cancellation policy?
Up to 30 days before the retreat, 100 % of the amount paid is refunded; between 30 and 8 days before, 50 %; with 7 days or less, refunds are not possible. Full conditions are detailed in the participation agreement.
